About
My name is Dimitris, I’m a biologist by training, technical writer by profession, and blogger by hobby.
Curiosity for the real world draws me to the natural sciences, and curiosity for abstract logic draws me to the formal sciences. I use data analytics to mess around with my interests, and I use this blog to share what I deem worth sharing.
I’m not formally trained in mathematics or statistics - I’m just a learner who asks questions and tries to find answers. I don’t claim expertise in the answers per se. But I do claim expertise in writing about my quest to find them.
Content
The blog’s content is split between the main section and the coding reference section.
-
In the main posts I try to explore questions or topics and reach an answer or better understanding. My goal is not necessarily to tackle important questions (who makes this distinction anyway?), but to share the fun of exploring any sort of question.
-
The coding reference posts introduce general concepts of code syntax and logic and provide technical background to support the main posts.
Code
My main tool is the R language. I use it in the main posts and explain some of it in the coding reference posts.
I strongly believe in the value of active learning: engaging with the material by simply playing around and trying things out. In line with this, the analysis code of each post is available for anyone to see, experiment with, and learn from.
The most important parts are shown in-text, and the code and material to fully reproduce each post is on a designated GitHub repository. Each post contains a link to download its respective source code on the top left, looking like this:
